About us

Transport
Transport is key to growth and inclusion. It connects people and enables companies to trade. Since its foundation in 1958, the EIB has supported many of the transport networks that helped Europe to thrive and grow closer together. Today, the EIB Group plays a significant role in the transformation of mobility into a low-carbon future. We aim to accelerate the take-up of sustainable transport solutions by attracting private investment and ensuring a balanced regional development at the same time. In addition to our financing, we provide technical assistance and advisory support.

Rail Sector
The rail projects we finance range from the construction and modernisation of tracks and stations to electrification, as well as acquisition and modernisation of passenger and freight rolling stock, maintenance depots and rail terminals that combine rail with other modes of transport.

Innovation & Competitiveness
Information and communication technologies (ICT) are rapidly changing global production, work and business methods and trade and consumption patterns in and between enterprises and consumers. ICT enables a radical change in the structures of organisations and means of learning, researching, developing, producing, marketing, distributing and servicing digital and traditional goods and services. It also has a great potential to enhance the quality of life.
The Digital Infrastructure division is responsible for various areas related to the development of ICT infrastructures, equipment, services and further application of ICT across industries. The EIB projects in the area of ICT and e-economy can be broadly categorized as follows:

  • Mobile networks
  • Fixed broadband networks
  • Transmission networks
  • ICT application and services
  • RDI in ICT infrastructure, equipment and in the semiconductor industry
